ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — An Oakland County judge denied a request Tuesday morning to reduce the bond for the parents of the teen accused in the Nov. 30 Oxford High School shootings that killed four and injured another seven.

Defense attorneys for James and Jennifer Crumbley appeared during the pretrial hearing seeking to reduce the couple's bond from $500,000 to $100,000 each. They are each charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shootings. The couple will remain in the Oakland County Jail.

"The defendants’ own actions leading up to their arrest make the current bond appropriate," Oakland County Judge Cheryl Matthews said. "Therefore, I’m denying the motion to reduce the bond."

Matthews also set a tentative trial date, which could start Oct. 24. The defense team told the judge they will file a motion for a change of venue.

Authorities had tracked the couple down in a Detroit warehouse after they disappeared when prosecutors announced charges against them. Defense lawyers maintained the two were seeking to turn themselves in.
