Macomb County Man Guilty In Shootout That Lead To Wife's Death

Prosecutors said the husband confronted another man about talking to his wife as a shootout broke out at a Macomb County home.

RAY TOWNSHIP, MI — A Washington Township man is facing life behind bars after he was convicted of manslaughter for the slaying of his wife, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Matthew Louis Mollicone, 46, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, assault with intent to murder and three counts of felony firearm in connection with a July 2022 shootout that left his wife dead, according to prosecutors.

The assault with intent to murder is punishable up to life in prison, while voluntary manslaughter is a 15-year felony. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 10 by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh.

Mollicone and his wife drove to a home in Ray Township on July 12, 2022 to confront a man about talking to his wife, according to prosecutors.

After arriving at the home, Mollicone walked into the garage and approached the victim, while reaching for a firearm in his waistband, according to prosecutors.

The victim also pulled out a handgun and fired a shot over Mollicone's head, according to prosecutors.

The two men continued exchanging gunfire and the victim was shot in the leg, according to prosecutors.

After the victim was shot, he tried to run away from Mollicone, but Mollicone continued firing shots at the victim, according to prosecutors.

Mollicone continued firing shots as he returned to his car with his wife, according to prosecutors.

The shootout continued and Mollicone's wife was eventually shot, leading to her death, according to prosecutors.

"The jury's convictions holds the perpetrator accountable for his actions and brings closure to the loved ones left behind," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a statement.
