Macomb County Woman Dies In Upper Peninsula Snowmobile Crash: Sheriff

The Luce County Sheriff's Office said the woman was trying to cross a highway on her snowmobile when she was struck by vehicle.

MCMILLIAN TOWNSHIP, MI — A Macomb County woman was killed Tuesday after she was struck multiple times while snowmobiling in the Upper Peninsula, according to the Luce County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the 55-year-old woman from Chesterfield Township was trying to cross Michigan 123 from Charcoal Grade Road in McMillian Township on her snowmobile at 6:30 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle.

A 56-year-old Newberry woman was driving north on Michigan 123 and told investigators she was unable to stop quick enough to avoid the collision, officials said.

The woman was thrown from her snowmobile and then hit by another vehicle while laying in the southbound lanes, officials said. A 57-year-old Newberry man told police he did not see the woman in the roadway.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries, officials said.

The sheriff's office said neither alcohol nor drug use were contributing factors, but said they were still investigating the crash.
