Man Charged With Murder In Shelby Township Woman's Death: Police

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI — Macomb County prosecutors added a murder charge against a 19-year-old man who they said fled after crashing a truck that had a dead woman's body in it, the Macomb County Prosecutors Office said.

Stephen Freeman was charged with felony murder, receiving and concealing a body and concealing the death of an individual, officials said. If convicted of felony murder, he faces up to life in prison.

A judge revoked his bail and ordered him to the county jail until his trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 30, 2022, in 39th District Court in Roseville.

Police arrested Freeman in Lexington three days after he crashed a blue pickup truck with a dead woman inside the back of the truck on Oct. 27 in Roseville, according to prosecutors.

Roseville Police searched the truck and found 62-year-old Gabriele Seitz dead inside its bed, prosecutors said.

Before the crash, prosecutors said Freeman entered Seitz’s home through a window when she was not at home. Once she arrived home, the two fought, resulting in the woman's death, prosecutors said.

Freeman then took the woman's truck, which he later crashed into a semi truck near Hayes and Common roads in Roseville with Seitz's body in it, prosecutors said.

A GoFundMe page was created by Justin Omans to raise money for his mother's funeral. As of Tuesday afternoon, $5,071 was raised, short of its $10,000 goal.

"My mom was the sweetest, friendliest and funniest person to be around, but unfortunately, she was taken from this world too soon," Omans said. "I am deeply heartbroken and asking for help to give her a great funeral. Whatever you can donate is very much appreciated."
