Master of Public Health students graduate from being classmates to coworkers
Two recent Oakland University graduate students go from sitting next to each other in class to sitting next to each other at work.
Kathryn Correll, MPH and Andrew Kurecka, MPH started as interns at MedNetOne Health Solutions (MNOHS) in the summer of 2014 while working on their Master of Public Health degrees at Oakland University.
They were both a part of the first class of students to graduate in the new major this spring. Now, they will continue their career as co-workers at MNOHS after being hired on this past week.
Correll has been hired as the manager of quality improvement strategy and Kurecka joins as the manager of outcomes research.

“Success stories like those of Kathryn and Andrew are exactly what we hoped to achieve when we developed this graduate training program,” said Patricia A. Wren, PhD, MPH, director of Oakland University’s Master of Public Health Program. “There is a growing need for public health expertise in our region and beyond. Our goal is to help advance students’ careers and provide talented professionals to the organizations that hire them.”
Ewa Matuszewski, CEO of MedNetOne Health Solutions, a Michigan-based healthcare management organization serving the infrastructure and clinical support needs of private practice physicians and behavioral health specialists, announced the hiring.

“Kathryn Correll and Andrew Kurecka represent the future generation of leadership in community-based health care,” Matuszewski said. “They were educated both as interns and through their graduate program at Oakland University on the Patient-Centered Medical Home, the Institute for Healthcare Advancement’s Model for Improvement, PDSAs, outcomes-driven data and population registries and are well positioned to handle the next generation of healthcare challenges and opportunities.”
Correll, a resident of Auburn Hills, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, also from Oakland University. In her role as manager of quality improvement strategy, Correll liaisons between providers and payers and is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating innovative policies and procedures to increase overall quality metrics, improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. Prior to joining MNOHS, Correll served as a graduate assistant at Oakland University, where she collaborated on the “Healthy Pontiac, We Can!” research initiative funded by the CDC’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health grant. She also worked as a physical therapy technician at North Woodward Rehabilitation in Bloomfield Hills.
Kurecka, a resident of Rochester Hills, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in health sciences and exercise science, also from Oakland University. In his role as manager of outcomes research, Kurecka liaisons between providers and payers and is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating new policies and procedures to improve overall quality metrics and improve patient outcomes. Prior to joining MNOHS, Kurecka served as a graduate assistant performing epidemiology research in the health sciences department. As a graduate assistant, he contributed to a scholarly article that has been submitted for publication titled, A Health Profile of Iraqi Refugees in Michigan. He also interned as an exercise specialist at Botsford Center for Health Improvement in Novi.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program at Oakland University prepares graduates to help improve the health of individuals and communities by training tomorrow’s public health professional via a skills-based, hands-on approach to teaching.
