The suspect was found dead inside the home, Rochester police said at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. According to CNN, the suspect, whose name was not released, was a 42-year-old man, and was found in the home he shared with his mother.

"The victims of this senseless tragedy are receiving care and at this time there are no reported fatalities," said a statement from Rochester police. "We are praying for full recoveries for all involved."

Police believe this was a random shooting. Officers responded to the scene within 2 minutes after 911 calls, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Police recovered a 9mm handgun and three empty magazines at the scene.

Police said they believe the shooter exited a vehicle shortly after 5 p.m., approached the splash pad and fired 28 rounds, reloading multiple times, and then left in a vehicle.

Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett said the following earlier Saturday evening: "We appreciate everyone's patience as we work through this. Prayers are with all those involved in this tragic situation. We will share more updates as we have information."

The county suffered another mass shooting in 2021, when four students were killed and seven injured at Oxford High School.

"It's a gut punch," Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard told reporters. "We're not fully comprehending what happened at Oxford, and now we have another complete tragedy that we're dealing with."
