OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Officials at the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said they received phone calls from survivors of the Oxford School shooting Tuesday, as news broke that multiple children were shot to death at an elementary school in Texas.

The massacre at Robb Elementary School that left at least 19 children and two teachers dead comes just shy of the six-month anniversary of the deadly Oxford school shooting, when four students were killed and seven others wounded.

"We know that this re-injures terrible wounds and horrific memories," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "We want these families to know we are there for them. We are united."

Bouchard also said officials at the office offered comfort, resources and answered questions that have no easy answers to all the families who had not called in first.

"I am sure this tragedy in Texas is triggering terrible memories, anxiety and fear in Oxford and
our communities," Bouchard said. "We want the community to know we are there for them in
any form or fashion that can be helpful. We can connect them with mental health services or just
be there to listen – united and Oxford strong."

Bouchard said his office is devoting additional resources to provide additional active shooter
training and coordinating school resource officers throughout the county.

"Tragically, we live in dangerous times, and we will do whatever it takes and seek whatever
resources are necessary to be properly prepared to protect this community," Bouchard said.

Oxford Schools Superintendent Ken Weaver said the Robb Elementary School shooting could trigger similar emotions to the Oxford School shooting throughout the community.

"This horrific news will undoubtedly affect each of us in our community," Weaver said. "We strongly encourage our families to limit their exposure to the news as it will be a retraumatizing trigger."

Although he encouraged students to attend school on Wednesday, students would not be punished if they chose not to attend class.
