“Oakland’s steady enrollment growth over the past 17 years reflects the university’s focus on delivering high quality academic programs at an affordable cost,” OU President George W. Hynd said in a statement. “As students and families look for value in today’s competitive higher education market, Oakland continues to position itself as a first-choice institution in the state and across the region.”

Undergraduate enrollment also reached a new high of 17,161 students. The 2,716 first-time students on campus are also the most in the university’s history, representing a six percent increase over last year’s figures.

In addition, the OU Honors College welcomed its largest-ever freshman class of 315 students. The group is remarkable not only because of its size, but also because of its strong academic profile, the university said. Nearly 40 percent of its members are Presidential Scholars — students who achieved at least a 3.9 GPA and an ACT score of 31 or above while in high school.
