Oakland U's Center for Human Animal Interventions offers free lecture

Animal behavior consultant to discuss how to protect your dog in animal assisted therapy interventions

Oakland University’s Center for Human Animal Interventions is presenting a free lecture on animal welfare in animal assisted therapy sessions on Thursday, March 24, from 4-6 p.m. The lecture is scheduled for room 2086 in the Human Health Building on Oakland University’s main campus.

During “It’s Not Dog Whispering, It’s Dog Listening,” animal behavior consultant C.J. Bentley will discuss a number of animal welfare factors that are essential to a safe and productive environment for everyone in an animal assisted therapy (AAT) situation. The presentation will focus on how to assess animal temperament to determine if a dog is well-suited to AAT, and on how to know when the dog is experiencing stress and what to do about it.

Bentley is senior director of operations for the Michigan Humane Society and the past executive director of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
