OAKLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRAS - CALL FOR AUDITIONS

Student instrumentalists, ages 7-18, who want to further develop their musical talents and skills are invited to audition for membership in Oakland Youth Orchestras’ (OYO). Audition signup for the 2016-2017 season begins April 1st online at www.oyomi.org and extends through May 15, 2016. Merit and financial based scholarships are available.

Oakland Youth Orchestras has been educating and enriching youth through music since 1975. OYO is a four-tiered orchestra program (Studio String, String, Philharmonia and Symphony Orchestras) serving over 350 students generally in grades two through twelve from Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties in southeast Michigan. The mission of OYO is to inspire student musicians by providing an exceptional orchestral experience to public, private and home schooled students.

OYO student musicians will grow in the 2016-17 season under the tutelage of skilled conductors with extensive performance and music education backgrounds in a premier southeast Michigan orchestra program. OYO fosters further musical enrichment through many performance opportunities: 3 concerts with over 350 members, chamber concerts, out-reach recitals, small ensembles, solo performances and competitions.

Auditions assist conductors in placing each student at the appropriate skill level to provide optimum learning conditions in one of OYO’s four orchestras. All returning and prospective OYO members must audition.

Interested students and parents are invited to attend an Open House where they can observe rehearsals. Board members and conductors will be available to answer questions about the program.

· Studio String and String Orchestras (advanced beginner through intermediate strings) Open House: April 14, 2016, 6:30-8:00 pm at University Presbyterian Church, 1385 S Adams Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48309.

· Philharmonia/Symphony Orchestras (advanced intermediate through advanced for all instruments) Open House: April 21, 2016, 7:15-8:45 pm at Oakland University, Varner Hall.
