OAKLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRAS - CALL FOR AUDITIONS

Fall Audition Registration, specific instruments, for membership in Oakland Youth Orchestras begins online August 10, 2016.

Student instrumentalists, ages 7-18, who want to broaden their music experience and join with 350 other talented student musicians from the Detroit Metro Area are invited to audition for membership in the Oakland Youth Orchestras’ (OYO). Auditions for specific instruments will be held on August 30, 2016 at Oakland University, Varner Hall. Registration begins August 10, 2016 online at www.oyomi.org.

OYO youth musicians will study under the tutelage of amazing conductors with extensive performance and music education backgrounds in a premier orchestra program. Students will have weekly rehearsals and the opportunity to perform in 3 concerts at the Oxford Fine Arts Center, chamber music programs, music theory, outreach performances and competitions.

Current openings include: Studio String Orchestra – violin, viola, cello, bass; String Orchestra – violin, viola, cello, bass; Philharmonia – violin, viola, cello, bass, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone; Symphony – violin, viola, cello, bass, bassoon, French horn, tuba. Auditions assist conductors in placing each student at the appropriate skill level to provide optimum learning conditions in each of OYO’s four orchestras. Oakland Youth Orchestras has been educating and enriching youth through music since 1975. OYO is a four-tiered orchestra program (Studio String, String, Philharmonia and Symphony orchestras) serving over 350 students generally in grades two through twelve from Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties in southeast Michigan. The mission of OYO is to inspire student musicians by providing an exceptional orchestral experience to public, private and home schooled students. OYO fosters enrichment through opportunities in music theory, chamber music, community outreach performances and competitions.
