Oxford Shooter Pre-Sentencing Hearing Moved, Teen To Stay In Jail

PONTIAC, MI — A sentencing hearing for Oxford school shooter Ethan Crumbley was moved again by an Oakland County judge Friday morning during a hearing where the judge ordered Crumbley to remain in jail.

A judge must review the 16-year-old's status every 30 days to determine if Crumbley should stay in jail or be moved to a youth facility since he is a juvenile. The judge ordered Crumbley to stay in the Oakland County Jail as he awaits sentencing.

Before a judge can sentence Crumbley, the teen must have a Miller hearing where a judge will determine if Crumbley should face the rest of his in prison. A Miller hearing is a pre-sentencing hearing required to occur when a juvenile faces a life sentence without parole.

An agreement for the Miller hearing was initially set for June, but the judge moved that date to July 27 to satisfy all parties involved in the case. A judge is expected to sentence Crumbley sometime this year.

Ethan Crumbley, who was 15 at the time of the deadly shooting, admitted to killing four students and wounding seven other people at Oxford High School on Nov. 30. He pleaded guilty to 24 charges in connection to the deadly shooting. He faces life in prison without parole.

The four students killed in the shooting were: 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 16-year-old Tate Myre, 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin and 17-year-old Justin Shilling.
