Parents Of Accused Oxford Shooter Seek Lower Bond: Report
Jennifer and James Crumbley are each being held on a $500,000 bond since their arrested on Dec. 4.

PONTIAC, MI — A lawyer representing the parents of the accused Oxford school shooter requested a lower bond Wednesday three weeks after their arraignment on four counts of involuntary manslaughter, multiple outlets reported.
Jennifer and James Crumbley are each being held on a $500,000 bond since their arrested on Dec. 4. They are accused of making a gun accessible their son and failing to pull him out of school when summoned about his writings before the shooting on Nov. 30.
Their lawyer, Shannon Smith, asked the court to reduce their bond to $100,000 each, arguing they didn’t anticipate their son would commit violence and are "devastated" like others in the community. She also said if Jennifer and James Crumbley were released from jail, they will wear an electronic monitor.

"The Crumbleys, like every parent and community member, are devastated by the school shooting," Smith and co-counsel Mariell Lehman said in a court filing. "The last thing they expected was that a school shooting would take place, or that their son would be responsible."
Smith also said Jennifer's text "don't do it" to her son was asking him not to commit suicide after the shooting and they realized the gun was missing.

Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald has said she would oppose a lower bond. A judge is not expected to consider the new bond request until Jan. 7.
