Registration Open Now for Michigan Senior Olympics

The opening ceremonies for the 37th Annual Summer Games will be held Aug. 12 in Rochester Municipal Park.

ROCHESTER, MI – Registration is now open for Michigan Senior Olympics’ 37th Annual Summer Games to be held at various locations throughout Oakland and Macomb counties Aug. 12-22.

More than 1,000 athletes from all over the state will participate in the games, according to a news release from Michigan Senior Olympics, a non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles by organizing state games, sports competitions and health, fitness, and wellness programs for active individuals 50 years and older.

The Olympic Games take place every summer and winter and include activities designed to appeal to a wide range of individuals 50 years and older and promote healthy, active lifestyles.

Events include: archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bocce ball, bowling, cycling, dancesport, disc golf, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, powerlifting, 5K and 10K races and walks, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field, triathlon, and volleyball.

The opening ceremony will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at the Rochester Municipal Park. The free, family-friendly event includes a torch arrival ceremony, free food, and music and other entertainment.

The Michigan Senior Olympics is a qualifying event for the 2017 National Senior Games in Birmingham, AL.

The deadline to register for the Michigan Summer Games is Friday, July 22. To register, visit.michiganseniorolympics.org or call (248) 608-0252.

Michigan Senior Olympics is also recruiting volunteers to help with the upcoming Summer Games.

Volunteer opportunities include staffing check-in tables, scorekeeping, and directing athletes where to go on the courses. Customizable sponsorships are also available.
