Rochester Hills City Council Extends Labor Contracts

Nearly 60 percent of Rochester Hills' full-time employees are represented by the two labor unions that had contracts approved by council Monday.

Rochester Hills City Council passed two collective bargaining agreements Monday with labor unions that represent more than half of the city's full-time employees.

City Council unanimously approved collective bargaining agreements with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) locals 2491 and 1917.28.

The AFSCME Local 2491 represents 110 out of Rochester Hills 200 full-time employees, or 55 percent of them, including the Rochester Hills Fire Department.

The settlement agreement is consistent with the general direction provided by City Council, and was signed by members of management and union bargaining teams for the labor unions on Sept. 1, 2011.

The members of both AFSCME Local 2491 and Local 1917.28 ratified the agreements on Sept. 7, and City Council updated the terms during a closed session prior to Monday’s special meeting.

A few members of the unions were present for the voting and passing of the agreements after about a 15-minute closed session.

The only absent member on City Council was Vice President Vern Pixley.

City Council will hold its next regular meeting on September 19 at 7 p.m.
