Rochester Hills Department of Public Services Fleet Among Top 100 Best Fleets in the Nation

The City of Rochester Hills’ Fleet Services Division has been recognized as one of “The 100 Best Fleets in North America” by Governing Magazine.

The award program recognizes peak performing public sector fleets that have outstanding operations and places the City of Rochester Hills at #59 out of more than 3,800 fleets nationwide.

“This recognition is further affirmation that we run an efficient and effective operation,” states Allan Schneck, Department of Public Services Director. “We are always researching, exploring and investigating advances within our industry to further our mission to deliver the highest level of service within our given resources.”

The city’s diverse fleet consists of 362 units, including fire apparatus, public works and forestry trucks and equipment, utility vehicles and more.

Highlighted in the contest application was the City’s innovative shared service agreements to provide fleet services with local agencies like the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC),  the Rochester Hills Public Library Bookmobile and the OPC, just to name a few.

“These collaborative efforts have allowed the city to maximize efficiencies of staffing and capacity while reducing our overall fixed costs,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett.

In addition to its shared service agreements, the City has also leveraged relationships with eight other neighboring cities for the solicitation of 30 single/tandem dump trucks. 

“Understanding that every agency’s needs are different, Rochester Hills Fleet Services devised a ‘cafeteria style’ solicitation process whereby agencies could select from a list of desired options while taking advantage of economies of scale,” stated Schneck.

Among the 100 agencies recognized, Rochester Hills was the only division recognized in the State of Michigan. The fleet services division will be recognized at City Council on Monday, July 21.
