Rochester Hills Drunken Driver Arrested After Crawling To Car: Police

Officers stopped the drunken driver before he left a parking lot where witnesses told police he crawled to his car, police said.

TROY, MI — A drunken driver from Rochester Hills was arrested early Saturday morning after witnesses saw him crawling to his car before trying to drive away in Troy, according to police.

Witnesses called police and told them they saw a man lying in the parking lot of the gas station in the 3400 block of Rochester Road at 1:17 a.m. Saturday and crawling toward a gray Ford Focus, according to police.

Officers arrived and stopped the Focus as it was leaving the parking lot, according to police.

Officers spoke with the driver, whom the identified as a 49-year-old man from Rochester Hills, and "noted his eyes were red, bloodshot, and glassy, and there was an odor of intoxicants emanating from the vehicle," according to police.

The Rochester Hills man failed multiple sobriety tests and blew a .261 percent BAC, which is more than three times the legal limit to drive in Michigan, according to police.

The man was placed in jail and given a citation for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17 percent or more and driver’s license required: drove while unlicensed, according to police.

Police did not release his name.

If convicted under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% could face up to 180 days in jail.
