Rochester Hills Man Dies From Injuries After Adams/Avon Crash: Police

The 74-year-old man was in the backseat of a Honda Accord when a jeep smashed into the car in Rochester Hills, police said.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — A man has died after a Rochester Hills crash last Wednesday, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Suk-Joon Ham, 74, died Saturday at a nearby hospital from his injuries sustained in the crash, officials said.

Ham was in the backseat of a 2012 Honda Accord when a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran a red light and smashed into the Accord at the intersection of Adams and Avon roads on Sept. 21, officials said.

A 75-year-old Rochester Hills man and a 73-year-old Rochester Hills man were also in the Accord, and were injured in the crash but listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital, officials said.

The 30-year-old Rochester Hills woman driving the jeep was not injured in the crash, officials said. Although officials don't believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, they think the woman was using her cell phone when she ran the red light and smashed into the Accord.

Officials said the Honda had the right away as it was turning left on a green light from Avon Road onto Adams Road when the jeep smashed into the car.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the crash.
