Rochester Junior Woman's Club is looking for New Members

RJWC has provided more than 1 million hours of community service and raised more than $890,000 to support the local community

The Rochester Junior Woman’s Club (RJWC) is actively seeking new members! RJWC is a volunteer service organization which has been a part of the Rochester community for 60 years.

RJWC is committed to supporting numerous area charities and non-profit organizations through hands-on volunteering as well as fund-raising. Since its inception, the Rochester Junior Woman’s Club has more than 1 million hours of community service and raised more than $890,000 to support the local community.

The Rochester Junior Woman’s Club is a fun loving group of women who have one common goal — “Serving their community.” Great friendships have been built while accomplishing this goal. Although they work hard, they also find time to have fun.

They welcome new members all year long! Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of every month (Sept – May) at the Rochester Community House at 816 Ludlow and their membership requirements are simple; including attending 4 of 8 meetings a year, support the major fundraisers, participate in club volunteer events ….and to have fun! Membership dues are $30.00 a year along with an optional $7.30 a year for “Pennies a Day” which goes to support Guiding Harbor, a private, non-profit organization founded by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Michigan (GFWC-MI), that provides child caring and child placement services for abused and neglected children.

Members of RJWC have helped found many institutions in the Rochester community; Rochester Community House, Crittenton Hospital, Rochester Hills Public Library, Rochester YMCA, Older Persons Commission (OPC) and the League of Women Voters all were started with the support of club members.

The group also provides hands on support to the Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm including the annual Stonewall Pumpkin Festival, the Older Persons Commission, and Dinosaur Hill Nature Center. They also provide two scholarships annually through the Greater Rochester Community Foundation.

In addition, past fundraisers have benefited Avon Players, Band of Angels, Blessings in a Backpack, Crittenton Hospital Foundation, Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Meadow Brook Center for Learning Differences, Meadow Brook Hall, Meadow Brook Hall Garden Club, Older Persons Commission (OPC), Paint a Miracle, Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Rainbow Connection, Rochester Area Neighborhood House, Rochester Community House, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, Rochester Hills Public Library, Rochester Symphony Orchestra (RSO), South Oakland Shelter and many other worthy organizations.

Proceeds from the club’s upcoming fundraising events will go to benefit Friends of the Paint Creek Trail, RARA’s SCAMP program, Rochester Symphony Orchestra and Vista Maria’s Wings program.

The club holds two or three major fundraisers a year to raise funds for the chosen recipients. This year, the events are the annual “Lobster Boil” which was held the last Saturday in September as well as two other events. “Spring Highlights” Luncheon and Shopping Boutique will be held March 19, 2016 at the Royal Park Hotel. As well as the “Haute to Trot” Kentucky Derby event planned for May 7, 2016. More information on these events as well as tickets are available at www.rjwc.org.
