‘Sick Pervert’ Who Masturbated at Store in U.S. Illegally: Sheriff

Federal immigration authorities have taken the resident of El Salvador into custody for deportation.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — A man who exposed himself to a woman at a Rochester Hills store last week and then masturbated is in federal custody after authorities arrested him and discovered he had been living in the country illegally, authorities said Monday.

Daniel Alfredo Torres-Rivas, 35, turned himself in Friday, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a news release. Torres-Rivas, who had been living at a home on Crittenden Street in Pontiac, provided an El Salvador passport as means of identification, Bouchard said.

Before Torres-Rivas was arrested, detectives received a tip from an Oakland County resident who recognized him from pictures on a local news broadcast. On Thursday, several news organizations, including Patch, published or broadcast surveillance photos from the Meijer store at 3175 Rochester Road, where Torres-Rivas allegedly exposed himself and made sexually explicit motions in the direction of a 24-year-old woman.

Detectives went to the address on Crittenden Street, but were unable to locate Torres-Rivas. A short time later, detectives received a call from his attorney and he turned himself in. He was arrested, arraigned and held on $1,000 personal bond the Oakland County Jail on a charge of aggravated indecent exposure.

“I find it completely disgusting and sad that this individual, who is illegally in our country, felt comfortable enough here to harass a woman in a very public store by masturbating to completion,” Bouchard said in the news release. “I thank the tipster who helped us lock up this sick pervert.”

Bouchard said officials with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that Torres-Rivas was in the country illegally and had been denied a Visa. He was taken into federal custody by ICE on Monday, and deportation processes have begun.

It’s unclear if he will be immediately deported, or if deportation will begin after the Oakland County charges are resolved. Aggravated indecent exposure is a misdemeanor offense which carries a maximum penalty of up to two years in state prison and a fine of up to $2,000.
