Woman Jumps from Second-Story Window to Escape Fire

A box of tissue placed too close to a candle is believed to have caused fire that resulted in female resident's injuries.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – A resident of a Rochester Hills woman was injured Friday when she jumped from a second story window of a burning apartment in the 400 block of Kensington Drive.

The fire apparently started when a box of tissue was placed too close to a burning candle, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The sheriff’s office said that when its Fire Investigations Unit and the Rochester Hills Fire Department responded to the address, heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the apartment window.

The female who leapt from the second floor window sustained a back injury and was also treated for smoke inhalation at Crittenton Hospital. Her name and age were not released.
