The Women's Fund Grants

Updated on the Lighthouse Career Dress Grant

The Women’s Fund is always thrilled to hear the follow up stories from the grants we provide!

The Career Dress program through Lighthouse Oakland County received a grant to be used towards the purchase of new plus sized clothing for woman of low income who are embarking on interviews or beginning employment.

Recently, Karen Lockman, Director of Career Dress, shared an update with us and we wanted to share it will all of you!

“During their fiscal year of 2014-2015, Career Dress volunteers assisted 263 women. Of this number, 120 women wore size 1X, 2X, 3X, or 4X. The grant funds were used to purchase clothing at Carson’s, Lane Bryant and Catherine’s. The opportunity to offer brand new clothing was a wonderful thrill for both the volunteers as well as our guests. An unexpected benefit was shared by all when one of our guests burst into tears as she exclaimed, “I never thought I could look this beautiful!” Another guest of Career Dress wrote us a thank you note mentioning her gratitude to our volunteers “for taking the time to coordinate her total look, helping her to feel like the polished and confident profession she is, ” said Lockman

Career Dress and its volunteers are committed to promoting the economic independence of low income women residing in Oakland County. With the Women’s Fund continued support and monetary assistance they are closing in on dressing thheir 4,000th guest.

The Volunteers at Career Dress would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank the Women’s Fund for their generous grant.“We change lives with a change of clothing. We simply could not do this without the wonderful support of The Women’s Fund,” said Karen Lockman

The Women’s Fund is proud of their partnership with Career Dress in an effort towards our goal of making a difference in the lives of women and their families. And we are glad to be able to share these touching stories with our supporters.
