The Women's Fund presents grant to Career Dress
$750 grant will help to provide women with business attire for interviews

The Women’s Fund recently presented Career Dress with a $750 grant. The Career Dress Program serves as a one-stop-shop to help low income women who are actively pursuing employment.
Career Dress is an Oakland County nonprofit that helps women who are working toward self-sufficiency by providing appropriate business attire for interviews and subsequently providing appropriate work wear once they've secured a position. Career Dress has been in operation since 2002 and has grown out of their last home to find more space as well as main street frontage at 55 West Huron Street in Pontiac.
Career Dress’ mission includes promoting the economic independence of low/moderate income women in Southeast Michigan by providing professional attire for women seeking active employment. With partnerships with over 50 different agencies, referrals for new clients come in from across Southeast Michigan.
“The funds we received from the Women's Fund Grant will be used to dress women who come to Career Dress seeking our assistance. The cost of dressing one woman is between $45 and $65. Although Career Dress receives some donated clothing and accessories, there are items that must be purchased new such as bras and underwear, and large size shoes and a number of 3x, 4x, and 5x clothing items and they serve approximately 30-40 women each month. The $750 we received from The Women's Fund Grant will be used to dress approximately 15 women!” said Karen Lockman of Career Dress.
The Women's Fund is a permanently endowed fund owned and administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. Through grant-making, the Fund provides ongoing and future support for programs that aid women while preserving and managing its donations in perpetuity by spending only the fund's income and annual earnings.
