“You never stop learning” says John Fletcher. “ The art of glass blowing changes and enhances my knowledge and desire to continue with every piece of art I produce”
“When I first met John Fletcher at the Franklin Art Show on Labor Day 2010, I was so taken by his uniqueness, quality and clarity of his blown glass” said Mike Byrne of the South Oakland Art Association (SOAA), “I just knew from then we had to have him share his talents with our artists.”
John Fletcher will join us at the SOAA general meeting on Nov. 7. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM at the at 814 N. Campbell Road, Royal Oak 48067. The church is 1/2 mile west of I-75 between 11 and 12 Mile Roads. Free parking is on the north side of the church as is the entrance.
John will show many of his current blown glass art pieces, discuss the details of the art of glass blowing, tell us how and when he got interested in this wonderfully delicate art. Of particular interest is the talent of placing color with color and knowing how to use the tools for design.
John ‘s venture into glass blowing began with classes at the College of Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit in 2008 on retirement after 47 years employment in the health care delivery system.
John states “ It is never too late to take up an art and encourages all those who have creative urges to follow those inclinations. John had been so inspired he continued classes at CCS and also started classes with Albert Young at the Detroit bases Michigan Hot Glass Studio (www.michiganhotglass.com) . “I now work primarily at MHGS, blowing once or twice a week “ according to Fletcher. “Albert Young and his staff are extremely supportive of my artwork.”
John has pursued advanced studies with:
- Tyler Rock, Espace Verre (espaceverre.qc.ca), Quebec, Canada
- Laura Donefer, Corning Museum of Glass (www.cmog.org), Corning, New York
- Jeff Mack, Toledo Glass Pavilion (www.toledomuseum.org/glass-paviilion), Toledo Ohio
