Beaumont Offers Stress Reduction Program

Integrative Medicine and Adat Shalom Synagogue are offering Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques, an eight-week program and retreat to teach people how to reduce stress through meditation and mindful yoga.

 Stress is a part of everyone’s life, driven by the hustle and bustle of work, family and other responsibilities. This can be especially true for physicians, nurses and others who care for patients, family or friends with medical needs.

Beaumont Integrative Medicine and Adat Shalom Synagogue have partnered to offer, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques, an eight-week program and retreat to teach those in caregiving roles how to reduce stress through meditation and mindful yoga.

“Participants will learn stress reduction techniques, including insight, concentration and walking meditation; mindful listening, eating and yoga; and mindfulness during daily activities,” says Ruth Lerman, M.D., medical director of Beaumont’s Silver Linings Program, a breast cancer specialist, and an experienced teacher and researcher of stress reduction. “We are excited about offering this program for the first time for the medical community, as well as the general public.”

The program includes 28 hours of instruction, including a full-day retreat; four meditation/yoga CDs and an informational binder.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques will be held on consecutive Tuesday evenings from Oct. 4 to Nov. 22, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Adat Shalom Synagogue, 29901 Middlebelt Road in Farmington Hills. A full-day retreat will take place on Sunday, Nov. 13. 

The program is $350. Participants must attend a free information and registration session on Tuesday, Sept. 20 or 27 at 6:30 p.m.

The program is nondenominational.
