ROYAL OAK, MI — A beloved camel at the Detroit Zoo was humanely euthanized last week after years of mobility issues, zoo officials said.

Humphrey, a Bactrian camel, was born at the zoo in 2014. A few years ago, he started experiencing mobility issues, so staff members began looking into the cause of his discomfort, zoo officials said.

Humphrey received expert care for as long as possible, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough as his condition worsened, and the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize him, zoo officials said.
