Guests can go on a scavenger hunt and walk an indoor forest trail to search for treats to the sounds of Halloween. All Boo at the Nature Zoo activities are free.

“This annual event provides a great way for families to get into the Halloween spirit,” DZS Executive Director and CEO Ron Kagan said in a statement. “It’s a fun and safe way to go trick-or-treating in a unique and beautiful setting.”

The Belle Isle Nature Zoo sits on a 5-acre site surrounded by undisturbed forested wetlands on Belle Isle in Detroit.

The facility features indoor animal habitats, a bee exhibit, bird observation window, outdoor native butterfly garden, outdoor classrooms and the Blue Heron Lagoon nature trail. A “Deer Encounter” exhibit allows guests to feed the fallow deer while learning about their history.

Located at the east end of Belle Isle near the Blue Heron Lagoon, the Belle Isle Nature Zoo is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, April through October; and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., November through March. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Admission is free, but a State of Michigan Recreation Passport is required for all personal vehicles to enter Belle Isle State Park.
