UPDATED: Flights Grounded, Delayed at Detroit Metro
State offices and several area schools are closing early due to snowstorm.

ROMULUS, MI – Dozens of flights have been cancelled and delayed at the Detroit Metro Airport, according to FlightStats.com, which tracks the nation’s air traffic.

Delta, the largest carrier based at the airport, said Wednesday that waivers would be given to passengers flying Wednesday or Thursday to or from Detroit, Alpena, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Saginaw, or to Fort Wayne and South Bend, IN. More information is found here.

American Airlines also was offering waivers for travelers at airports throughout Michigan. Learn more about that here.

Snow and ice at the Detroit Metro Airport is causing flight delays of about 45 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Traffic Control Command Center.
Several other U.S. airports are also experiencing delays, including Chicago Midway, where all Southwest Airline flights have been cancelled.
Late-morning flights from Orlando, Indianapolis and Tampa have been diverted. Other scheduled inbound flights New York, Newark, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Kansas City and other cities have been cancelled, according to FlightView.
Also Wednesday, most state offices in the Lower Peninsula closed at noon because of hazardous weather, which could dump between 4 to 8 inches of snow on Metro Detroit.
