Bumble Bee Recall
The under-processing of the Bumble Bee tuna was discovered by a co-packer during its routine quality audit, the company said. The process deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process, and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens.
The tuna was distributed nationwide at multiple retail outlets, the company said. Three products are included in the recall: 5-ounce Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water (UPC 8660000020), 5-ounce Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Oil (UPC 8660000021), and 4 Pack of 5-ounce Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water (UPC 8660000736).
The recall includes 31,579 cases of tuna produced in February. The products are marked with a can code that starts with a “T” (example: TOA2BSCAFB) and several “best by” dates. Click here to see the full list and to find out what to do if you bought some of the affected tuna.
No illnesses have been reported, and the company said it is recalling the tuna out of an abundance of caution. The company also said it is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to expedite removal of the tuna from store shelves.
