‘The Influence of Innovation’ Design Contest

Broder & Sachse Real Estate Celebrates 25 Exceptional Years with 'The Influence of Innovation' Design Contest for Local Students

Broder & Sachse Real Estate (Broder & Sachse), an innovative urban real estate development company in Detroit, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, marking the occasion with a sculpture design contest for students from the College for Creative Studies (CCS). Broder & Sachse CEO Richard Broder made the announcement.

“The Influence of Innovation” contest calls on CCS students to channel the spirit of Broder & Sachse’s commitment to the City of Detroit, with a design concept capturing the essence of the company’s innovative approach to development in Detroit. Student designs will represent the intersection of Broder & Sachse’s game-changing developments in Detroit as part of the city’s continued comeback. The chosen concept will then be fabricated by the winning artist and installed in New Center Park, located at 2998 West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, which is owned and operated by Midtown Detroit, Inc.

“Celebrating 25 years of exceptional development is an important milestone for our team, and this is a tremendous opportunity to engage Detroiters in a neighborhood we are dedicated to growing for years to come,” Broder said. “There’s incredible value for us to invest in the future of our community and in up-and-coming local artists through a meaningful art installation – something everyone in Midtown can enjoy.”

The student who creates the winning design will receive a $10,000 material and build budget to bring their sculpture to life, as well as a $5,000 scholarship prize package. An additional $2,000 in scholarship prizes will be awarded to other competition finalists.

“The College for Creative Studies is pleased to help Broder & Sachse commemorate 25 years by tapping into our talented pool of students and allowing them to design something that stands the test of time in New Center Park, just a few blocks from us,” said Vince Carducci, Dean of Undergraduate Studies at CCS. “We have no doubt our students deliver compelling design options that closely mirror the creativity Broder & Sachse has brought to Detroit over the years.”

Students must submit their entries by Friday, April 13, with finalists presenting their concepts to a panel of judges the following week. The winning design will be announced the week of April 23, with the sculpture to be created throughout the summer with an installation date to come in fall 2018.

New Center Park presents free movie screenings, theatrical performances, and community programming from June through August. The winning sculpture will be installed in the round fountain bed adjacent to the performance pavilion on the northeast corner of the park. Broder & Sachse will handle installation and maintenance of the sculpture.

“Broder & Sachse demonstrates its commitment to Midtown through the care and consideration applied to each development in our neighborhood,” said Sue Mosey, Executive Director of Midtown Detroit, Inc. “We share a passion for elevating Midtown to a place that can truly be enjoyed by residents, business owners and visitors alike. The art installation Broder & Sachse is driving, with creative vision from CCS students, is yet another opportunity to give back to our community and strengthen local ties that lead us into the future together.”

Broder & Sachse is well-known for its instrumental role in the revitalization of downtown in recent years through several acquisitions and developing three substantial mixed-use properties, including The Scott at Brush Park, The Albert - Capitol Park, The Hamilton Midtown Detroit and Orchestra Place. In addition to extensive work in Detroit proper, Broder & Sachse is currently developing innovative urban projects in communities throughout southeast Michigan.
