Law Firm Returns Free 'Safe Ride Home' for New Year's Eve
More than 125 celebrants turned in taxi and Uber receipts after they had too much to drink on Thanksgiving Eve.

SOUTHFIELD, MI – After a successful implementation of the “Safe Ride Home” program last month, a Southfield law firm is offering free rides home to residents of Wayne, Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw who drink too much on New Year’s Eve.
More than 125 people received $35 vouchers for taxi cab and Uber rides home on Thanksgiving weekend.
Lawyer Dave Christensen told Patch he hopes even more people will take advantage of the program Thursday night and Friday morning as they ring in 2016, or that the increased awareness will cause them to designate a driver or make other arrangements for a ride home.

A longtime auto accident attorney, Christensen is familiar with what happens when people make the decision to drive when they’ve had too much to drink.

He shared the story of a young honors student who died after experiencing college partying for the first time. She was a passenger in a car driving the wrong way on the freeway.
“The family deteriorated after that,” Christensen said. “The marriage didn’t work out. The siblings moved away. It destroyed the family not to mention the really promising life, and the person driving went to prison.
“I’ve seen so many lives destroyed by drunk driving, this seems like a real easy way to make a small dent.”
