Local Radio Station To Show Off Legendary Car At Woodward Dream Cruise

A Detroit public radio station will showcase a legendary car at the dream cruise and then raffle it away at a later date.

PLEASANT RIDGE, MI — With the 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise quickly approaching, a Detroit public radio station will showcase a legendary car they plan to give away at a later date.

WDET 101.9FM will display a 1964 Dodge 880 custom convertible (22,000 miles on the odometer) in Pleasant Ridge’s Memorial Park beginning at 2 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The car was owned by Mary Wilson (the widow of former Buffalo Bills owner and Detroit businessman Ralph C. Wilson, Jr.) and Horace Dodge Jr. (the son of Horace Dodge who founded the Dodge Car Company).

Dodge Jr. originally bought the convertible as a Christmas gift for his mother, Anna Thompson Dodge. The car was one of the first of this model to roll off the line.

Wilson then bought the car at auction in 1994 as a gift for Mary. The Wilsons affectionately named it "Horace," in acknowledgement of the first person who bought the car.

Raffle tickets for the legendary convertible are $101.90. All purchases support WDET, a Detroit non-profit public radio station. The winning ticket will be drawn on September 24, the last day of the Detroit Auto Show, at 1 p.m. live on WDET.

"It is so exciting to think that the winner of our raffle will be only the car’s third owner," WDET station manager Mary Zatina said. "We are so grateful to Mary Wilson for this priceless donation that shows her love of our station."
