More Suspicious Car Fires in Royal Oak

Two more car fires were reported over the weekend, bringing to five the number in the area of 14 Mile and Rochester roads.

ROYAL OAK, MI - Police suspect two more car fires in Royal Oak are connected to three others investigators say were deliberately set last month.

The two latest car fires were discovered just before 5 a.m. Saturday in the area of Bauman and Ferris avenues near 14 Mile and Rochester roads. One of the vehicles, a minivan, was in the owner’s driveway when it was torched, WXYZ-TV reports.

The other vehicle was a Chevrolet Silverado that belongs to the victim’s employer. The woman told the TV station she had lived in the area since summer.

Witnesses said it appears that the suspected arsonist is randomly looking for unlocked vehicles that can be easily accessed, then sets something on fire inside the vehicle.
