HAZEL PARK, MI — An Oakland County teacher was arrested in connection to a bomb threat that sent the middle school where he worked into lockdown last week, police said.

Paul Jacobs, 40, of Livonia, was charged with making an intentional threat to commit an act of violence against a school, a 1-year misdemeanor, officials said. He was placed in jail and given a $10,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is Feb. 28.

After classes on Feb. 2, a staff member at Hazel Park Junior High found a piece of paper with a message that said the school would be blown up the next day, police said.

The middle school went into lockdown and canceled all after school activities as school officials and officers began investigating the threat, police said.

After finding the threat was non-creditable, officials determined that Jacobs found the threatening messages, but didn't report it to authorities, police said.

Moreover, officials said they believe Jacobs placed the note in the classroom for students to find the next morning.

Police said Jacobs told officers he put the threatening messages into a notebook, but prosecutors say they believe he intentionally planted it, hoping it would be reported and school would be canceled the next day.

Jacobs was a social studies teacher at the middle school, according to the school district's website.
