Pieology in Royal Oak Gets OK for Beer and Wine
Royal Oak police oppose the move, saying it "doesn't fit with vision of downtown."

(Posted Nov. 15, 2016) ROYAL OAK, MI – Despite objections from police who say downtown already has too many bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, the Royal Oak City Commission on Monday approved Pieology pizzeria's request to transfer its liquor license from FarmingtonHills so beer and wine can be served at its new location at 323 S. Main St. in Royal Oak, The Daily Tribune reported. Councilman Jeremy Mahrle agreed with police and said the eatery doesn't fit with the city's goals for downtown, but other commissioners and Mayor Jim Ellison said Pieology is an attractive establishment and its guests are more subdued than pub-style pizzerias that attract younger crowds. Despite the original objections, Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue said at meeting he doesn't expect the business to put too much of a strain on police resources,
