Royal Oak Farmers Market Isn't Closing, Repeat, It's Not Closing

As a plan to build a new police station and redevelop City Hall moves through city government, confusion over farmers market likely built.

ROYAL OAK, MI – The rumors aren’t true.

The Royal Oak Farmers Market isn’t going to be swallowed up in a proposed City Hall redevelopment, but market manage Shelly Mazur has been spending a lot of time explaining there are no plans to close the farmers market.

She told The Daily Tribune she has gotten β€œdozens” of calls and inquiries, from people who approach her during the market’s regular hours to brides who rented the market for their wedding receptions.

β€œWe are not closing,” Mazur said. β€œOur rentals are up, and we’re doing updates to the market.”

Mazur isn’t sure how the rumor got started, but thinks it may have been when a plan to convert the current city hall and police department into a $100 million project that build a new police station on a corner of the Farmers Market parking lot.
