Steve Harvey's Gaffe Not Only Epic Miss Universe Drama

Miss Puerto Rico suspended from the pageant after a Twitter tangent against Islam and liberal Michigan filmmaker Michael Moore.

Steve Harvey’s epic gaffe when he announced the wrong winner Sunday night capped a drama-filled week at the Miss Universe pageant.

Miss Puerto Rico, Destiny Velez, was suspended by the Miss Puerto Rico Organization after an hours-long tangent against Islam and Michigan filmmaker Michael Moore for starting the #WeAreAllMuslim movement on social media.

On Wednesday, Moore shared a photo of himself outside Trump Tower in New York with a sign proclaiming “We are all Muslim.” He encouraged other Americans to do the same and use the #WeAreAllMuslim hashtag.

Velez’s controversial tweets and her account have since been deleted, but in them she asserted that Muslims “have terrorizing agendas in their sacred books” and said she was “leaning to definitely vote for” Trump after seeing Moore’s photo.

In a tweet to Moore, she wrote: “All what Muslims have done is provided oil & terrorize this country & many others!!!!!!”

Other controversial tweets included:

“All [Muslims] do is build their mosques, feel offended by American values and terrorize innocent Americans and plant gas stations,”

“If we are all the same then Muslims need to take off their napkins off of their heads cuz I feel offended by it.”

“Many pull out the card of Muslims serving in our military. Are they in the military cuz they love our nation or to acquire benefits.”

In an open letter to Trump, Moore wrote:

“... We are not a country of angry white guys. Here’s a statistic that is going to make your hair spin: Eighty-one percent of the electorate who will pick the president next year are either female, people of color, or young people between the ages of 18 and 35. In other words, not you. And not the people who want you leading their country.

“So, in desperation and insanity, you call for a ban on all Muslims entering this country. I was raised to believe that we are all each other’s brother and sister, regardless of race, creed or color. That means if you want to ban Muslims, you are first going to have to ban me. And everyone else.

“We are all Muslim.

“Just as we are all Mexican, we are all Catholic and Jewish and white and black and every shade in between. We are all children of God (or nature or whatever you believe in), part of the human family, and nothing you say or do can change that fact one iota. If you don’t like living by these American rules, then you need to go to the time-out room in any one of your Towers, sit there, and think about what you’ve said. ...”
