Too Much Thanksgiving Cheer? Get Free Ride Home
Law firm will pay up to $35 for cab and Uber rides in four-county area; plus other efforts on second-deadliest holiday on Michigan roads.

A southeast Michigan law firm is offering to pay for your ride home if you drink too much celebrating Thanksgiving, the second-deadliest holiday on state’s roads, according to law enforcement officials.
Personal injury lawyer Dave Christensen of Southfield is offering the “Safe Ride Home” program in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb and Washtenaw counties from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. on both Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving Eve is traditionally one of the busiest bar nights of the year in Michigan.

Just call a taxi company or Uber, pay for the ride, then email a copy of the receipt along with a copy of your driver’s license to saferidehome@davidchristensenlaw.com, or send those materials by mail to Christensen Law Safe Ride Home, 25925 Telegraph Rd., Suite 200, Southfield, MI 48033.
You must be 21, the maximum amount of reimbursement is $35, and receipts must be received by Dec. 11.

Christensen has been involved with organizations such as the Washtenaw Council on Alcoholism, Spectrum Treatment and Prevention Services, and others that deal with alcohol and drug addiction. That’s why he’s offering assistance, according to a news release.
Last year, six people died on the state’s highways on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. That was half the number who died in 2013, according to the Michigan State Police.
This year, law enforcement officials are teaming with the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association to distribute drink coasters to member bars and restaurants that state “Safety is Your Best Defense,” according to a news release.
