As Sonya Harry was driving north on Woodward Avenue in Pleasant Ridge, after Harry and his mother left a family Thanksgiving Eve gathering in Detroit, George Harry fired a single shot at pointblank range to his mother’s head from the passenger seat of a Ford Edge, police said.

He shot her with a nine millimeter handgun, police said.

The Edge then crashed under the Interstate 696 interchange, before coming to rest in the middle of Woodward Avenue, police said.

George Harry then got out and randomly fired shots at three other passing vehicles, including one in which an infant was riding. The car was struck but no one in the infant’s vehicle was hit, police said.

However, a Ferndale woman, 43, was driving another car and suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. She has since been released from the hospital, police said.

The sheriff's office said a motive for the shootings was not immediately known.
