Watch: Police Take Time Out to Rescue Family of Ducklings
On the Fourth of July, police got a big assist from a mother duck that allowed them to rescue five ducklings trapped in a sewer drain.

Royal Oak police got an unusual call to rescue a family on the Fourth of July. It wasn’t a human family, but Officers Bruce Handrinos and Keith Bierenga nevertheless quickly responded to the area of Normandy and Seminole.
There, they found a family of five ducklings stuck in a sewer drain. Initial efforts only drove the ducks deeper into the drain, according to a video posted by the Royal Oak Police Department on YouTube.

The rest of the duck family – the mother and two other ducklings – were nearby and officers were eventually able to coax the mother to the manhole.
She fussed a bit. Police think the trapped ducklings recognized the quack, then relaxed enough that officers were able to pluck them from the drain and reunite the family.
