Saginaw Co. man pleads no contest in connection with 2003 Birch Run homicide (abc12.com) — A longtime city of Saginaw employee from Saginaw County has pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and criminal sexual conduct in a 2003 killing linked to him through new DNA analysis. The plea, reached ahead of trial, carries a 23- to 45-year sentence and investigators hope it brings some closure to the victim’s family and community.

3. Novelties shop expecting six-figure return from tariff refunds (wnem.com) — A Saginaw novelties wholesaler expects a six-figure refund after the Supreme Court struck down former President Trump’s tariffs, and is already working through a detailed federal claims process. The owner says he plans to pass some savings on by lowering prices for remaining tariff-burdened inventory and helping long-time customers who were also hit by higher costs.

4. Program offering transportation for people recovering from addiction (wnem.com) — Residents in Saginaw County can now access free rides to recovery meetings, treatment, and even gas cards through the new Rural Recovery Transportation program. Run by Peer 360 and funded by Mid-State Health Network, the service aims to remove transportation barriers for people in addiction recovery across Saginaw, Huron, and Tuscola counties. Rides must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance and are open to city residents too.

5. VA Deputy Secretary recaps EHRM update during Michigan Milestone Week (va.gov) — Saginaw-area veterans using the VA health system are now part of a major federal electronic health record rollout that just went live at the Saginaw VA facility alongside Ann Arbor, Detroit and Battle Creek. VA leaders say the launch has gone smoothly so far, with strong staff support, quick troubleshooting of issues like printer problems, and a focus on improving training and workflows as more sites come online.
