Leaders say housing all four medical school classes in Saginaw will strengthen mentoring, research, and clinical connections, while supporting rural health and physician retention across Michigan.
   

2. Millington's Morgan's Place gets $500k for veteran suicide prevention (abc12.com) — Veterans in Saginaw County stand to benefit from a $500,000 federal grant awarded to Morgan’s Place, a rehab campground and healing facility in nearby Millington. Beginning in fiscal 2027, the VA funding will support suicide‑prevention services for local veterans, as part of a broader $2.75 million investment in Michigan organizations working to reduce veteran suicides.
   

3. SVSU board approves new 3-year deal with Faculty Association (wnem.com) — SVSU faculty in Saginaw have secured a new three-year contract that raises salaries 4% in each of the first two years and 3.25% in the third, plus a one-time $300 increase. The deal also boosts university health insurance contributions as SVSU shifts to block tuition, with leaders saying the agreement supports faculty while remaining mindful of student costs.
   

4. Bay County man pleads to repeatedly stabbing Saginaw Township man in his recording studio in 2023 (mlive.com) — Saginaw County residents following a 2023 Saginaw Township stabbing case now know the accused attacker has pleaded no contest to reduced charges, avoiding trial. The victim, who survived 16 stab wounds, says he is unhappy with the plea deal after years of delays, while sentencing is scheduled for November with restitution and a victim impact statement expected.
   

5. Saginaw Valley State University sees gains in freshmen, international students (wnem.com) — Saginaw-area families may see a busier SVSU campus this fall, as the university reports its largest incoming class since 2019 and notable gains in freshmen, international, and new graduate students. Overall enrollment dipped slightly due to fewer returning and transfer students, but leaders say SVSU’s hands-on learning keeps graduates competitive in a changing job market.
