1,000 Gymnasts Come to Saline for Wolverine Classic

More than 1,000 gymnasts from all over the Midwest will descend on Washtenaw County this week, as the annual Wolverine Classic takes place at Saline Middle School. The three-day gymnastics meet – one of the largest in the Midwest – is sponsored by Ann Arbor's Gym America.

The Wolverine Classic kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday and runs through Sunday evening at Saline Middle School, 7190 N. Maple Road. The event is open to the public. Daily tickets available at the door are $11 for adults, $6 for students and seniors (ages 5 and under free). A two-day pass is available for $17.

Gym America owner and coach Claudia Kretschmer said the three-day event will feature gymnasts competing in Levels 3 through 10.

The marquee session at the Wolverine Classic takes place at 5 p.m. Saturday, as the Level 9-10 competition takes place. Some of the top gymnasts in the country will be competing, many of whom will be moving on to college teams in the next few years.

In addition to the teams from Michigan and other Midwestern states, the Wolverine Classic will also feature teams from Canada and the Bahamas.
