2. Stone family will be honoured at Algoma U scholarship dinner (sootoday.com) — A long-time Sault Ste. Marie business family, the Stones, will be honored at Algoma University’s John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner on October 22, 2026, recognizing nearly a century of local entrepreneurship and community service. The event at The Machine Shop will also celebrate scholarship students whose tuition support is funded through this annual community-focused fundraiser.

3. Soo Locks history program brings major Great Lakes story to Gaylord (petoskeynews.com) — If you’re interested in the Soo Locks that anchor Sault Ste. Marie’s economy, a free July 21 program in Gaylord will dig into their history and ongoing construction. A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ranger will share historic and current photos, plus details on the new lock project that keeps Great Lakes shipping moving.

4. Sault Tribe stocks over 1 million fish in Great Lakes to boost populations (9and10news.com) — A major fish-stocking effort led by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is putting more than 1.1 million walleye and lake whitefish into the Upper Great Lakes, supporting regional fisheries important to Sault Ste. Marie. The tribe’s Barbeau Hatchery, which has stocked over 22 million walleye since 1999, is also pioneering pond-rearing techniques to help rebuild struggling whitefish populations.
