1. Man charged with felonies for alleged hit-and-run of bicyclist (mlive.com) — A bicyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run at the Ford Street Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie, and a Dafter man now faces two felony charges after turning himself in. The victim has been released from the hospital, but city police are still investigating and asking anyone with information to call 906-632-5744.
   

2. New Lock at the Soo Reaches Construction Milestone (seawayreview.com) — Construction of the new Poe-sized lock at the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie has reached 50% completion, keeping the massive $3.2 billion project on track for 2030. With more than 600 workers on site and most U.S. iron ore shipments relying on this system, the added lock will significantly boost reliability for local shipping, jobs, and regional industry.
   

3. DeTour Schools Close After Damage Done During Break-In; Arrest Made (radioresultsnetwork.com) — Classes at DeTour Area Schools were canceled October 1 after staff discovered a break-in and property damage, prompting a response from troopers at the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post. A 24-year-old DeTour Village man was arrested and lodged in the Chippewa County Jail, while officials say there is no ongoing threat and expect classes to resume October 2.
   

4. Far From Home (collegehockeynews.com) — A new Lake Superior State University freshman forward from Japan is settling into life and hockey in Sault Ste. Marie, over 6,000 miles from home. He follows a path blazed by another Japanese Laker, balancing national pride with the pressure to earn ice time on a deep 2026–27 roster while finding a sense of home with teammates here.
