Monfort students, staff and parents donate to Wigs 4 Kids

Ten students, two staff members and one parent donate their locks to organization that creates wigs for children experiencing hair loss.

The Monfort Elementary community is a cut above the rest.

Ten students, two Monfort staff members, and one parent had their hair cut and donated to Wigs 4 Kids, a non profit organization that reaches out to kids with hair loss.

"I'm really glad to do this," said Monfort sixth grader Brandy Paton. "I feel bad for the kids who have no hair and I want to help them."

The donation of hair will allow the organization to make two wigs. In addition, Monfort students recently presented $600 to Maggie Varney, Founder and CEO of Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center and Salon.

Thanks to donations, Wigs 4 Kids has been able to create 150 wigs assisting 1,000 children who experience hair loss due to an illness or event in their lives.

Varney said school efforts such as Monfort's helps create awareness in elementary students about issues facing children with hair loss.

"Most importantly, though, it also allows the students to be part of the solution," she said.

The following Monfort community members donated their hair to the charity: Mrs. Jennifer Brinich, Mrs. Renee Davidson, Gabrielle Davidson, Aulona Ashiku, Angelina Suchoski, Marina Gojcaj, Aubree Clark, Sydney Clark, Alyssa Guaresimo, Gabrielle Geromin, Leah Gardiner, Brandy Paton, Leslie Pyle, and Adrianna Simovski.

The following salons donated their services for the event: Act II Salon - Jacqueline Waterhouse; Retired Hairdressers - Anna Di Cicco and Charlotte Fortuna; Lamoda Salon - Dee Shkreli (owner), and Lola Roseni; Monfort Parent - Rosa Freestone; Salon Dion- Dion VanKehrberg (owner), Kelli Johnston, and Chelsea Gurzick; and Studio 9 Salon - Anna Saragosa.
