UCS students selected for summer study program

Two Utica Community Schools seniors were among 35 Michigan students selected
for a summer program designed to prepare a new generation of scientists and
engineers.

Rachel Forsyth and Evan Phillips, of Eisenhower High School and the Utica Center
for Math, Science and Technology, participated in the "Beacon High
School" program at the Kellogg Biological Center in July.

The program, funded by the National Science Foundation, allows students to
take part in interdisciplinary research program and develop innovative
applications with actively evolving biological and technological systems.

Students were responsible for developing a research project and communicating
their findings by making a professional poster and power point presentation.

During the week, they also learned about various engineering careers from
visiting professors and experts in their field.
