DeKeyser visits DeKeyser to promote fitness

It was a meeting of the DeKeysers.
Red Wings star Danny DeKeyser visited DeKeyser Elementary Thursday to help promote education and fitness - and play a little hockey.
"It is important to set goals in life and be the best you can," DeKeyser told students as part of a health and fitness assembly.
The defensive player took part in the Red Wings Assembly, which visits area schools to introduce students to the sport of hockey through a youth street and floor hockey initiative.
DeKeyser even joined a student team, which ended up beating the teachers 4-2 in a game of floor hockey.
"These kids came to play," he said after the game.
The Red Wings Assembly program stressed education, physical fitness and setting goals tothe DeKeyser students. In addition to holding the assembly, the team donated equipment and to the school's physical education program.
Sixth-grader Isabella Bommarito, who took part in the hockey game, said she enjoyed both the assembly and the message behind the afternoon.
"I learned that if you are dedicated to your goals you will be able to reach them," she said.
As for DeKeyser, he said it was an extra bonus to learn there was a school in the area that matches the back of his jersey.
"I just found out this year," he said. "That's really cool!"
