Henry Ford II Honor Society awards its own kind of honor on long-time advisor

For 28 years, Henry Ford II French teacher Jane Kort has been dedicated to promoting leadership among Henry Ford II students through its National Honor Society.

Last week, the staff and students returned the love.

Henry Ford II has renamed its honor society the "Henry Ford II High School’s National Honor Society as the Jane Kort Chapter" in honor of the long-time advisor stepping down from the post.

"I don’t think she’ll ever know the total scope of her influence on those whose lives she has touched," said teacher Kathleen Plewa in presenting the recognition. "I don’t think we could ever thank her enough for the legacy she has created for the HFII family."

As advisor, Kort was responsible for the direct day-to-day supervision of the chapter and acted as a liaison among faculty members, administration, students and the community.

Her work ensured compliance with all NHS standards for the club and the maintenance of files related to membership, chapter history, activities and finances.

She also helped organize fundraisers for the Ford II chapter, which included such things as neighborhood clean ups, Relay for Life - raising more than $70,000 for American Cancer Society - Little Dresses for Africa, and holiday service projects.

"For 28 years, Jane was – and continues to be – the ultimate example of an NHS student herself," Plewa said.

NHS members are chosen based on scholarship, service, character and leadership.

New advisors for the Ford chapter are teachers Jason Sinning and Karen Trivelloni.
