It's a positive sign for Burr Elementary students

Burr Elementary took to the streets to share a message of kindness.

Nearly 40 students, staff members and parents met after school recently to display signs to passing motorists filled with positive messages.

“We all have to help one another,” said Burr sixth-grader Marria Zacki, a member of the school's Operation Kindness Jr. Club.

This is the second year Burr has held its “Power of One” walk for the community.

Messages shared this year include such things as “Smile, You Are Beautiful” or “Always Be Kind.”

The school's Operation Kindness Jr. Club was created through the Rachel's Challenge national initiative.

Based on the writings of Rachel Joy Scott - who died during the Columbine High School tragedy - the initiative encourages others to share kind messages to make a difference.

“We want to start a positive chain reaction and encourage others to be kind,” said club advisor Melissa Gronzo.
