Man Strangles Mother-In-Law Inside Shelby Township Home: Prosecutors

Officers found the 79-year-old woman dead inside her home in the 14000 block of Stoney Brook W. Drive around 3 p.m. Thursday, police said.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI — A Warren man is facing charges after police said he killed his mother-in-law Thursday inside her Shelby Township home.

Officers found the 79-year-old woman dead inside her home in the 14000 block of Stoney Brook W. Drive in Shelby Township around 3 p.m. Thursday, police said. Officials did not identify the woman.

Kenneth McDonald, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, which is a life felony, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. He was placed in jail without bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 30.

Prosecutors said McDonald strangled the woman, who was his mother-in-law, inside her home.

"A son-in-law is expected to show respect to his mother-in-law, just as he would to his own mother. We are committed to ensuring justice prevails in this case," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.
